An inspirational building wins Horbury Hunt Award
13 Nov 2009This year’s Horbury Hunt Award for Best Residential building went to the C500 house by Eastoffice Architects. The family home, described as “a labour of love”, has been beautifully renovated by its owner, Eastoffice architect partner Craig Channon.
The house, which uses brick throughout, was built in the New Farm suburb – an area that is peppered with examples of Italian post-war migrant’s bricking-in-and-over the timber and tin sensibility of the Queenslander. C500 manages to integrate both building materials into a response that overcomes the difference between them, through form and careful detailing.
Interestingly, a variety of bricklaying techniques were used and this helped win the house a Horbury Hunt Award. The awards were set up to recognise excellence and innovation in brick craftsmanship and given the vision, craft skill and love of brick that went into C500, it’s a well deserved award.
